Fire Department Field Trip

We went on a field trip to the fire department today. Each child received their own hat and sticker badge. They enjoyed seeing the entire fire station and the fire trucks. The tour was really nice and they really did a great job showing the kids all their gear and reminding them not to be scared of firefighters.

We learned the fire trucks are white because when the fire department started, they used white horses. To honor this heritage, they continue to have white trucks.

Music Class Today

Ms. Kristen came today and they sang songs together. Learned about a new instrument- the stirring xylophone. The kids really enjoyed the stirring xylophone- it sounds just like a regular xylophone but you play it by stirring inside it, great fun for the kids! They also all played instruments that made jingle sounds.

New Playhouse- Puppet Theater

We added a new puppet theater/playhouse to our playroom. Everyone loves playing in it. The big kids enjoy putting on puppet shows for the little kids and everyone enjoys playing house. We have lots of great puppets and now the kids really want to play with them. I love that it will store very flat and compact if we need more space.
Yesterday, the kids had all six stools and six pillows stuffed in the playhouse and they were "stuck" in there. I had to help them clean out their house so they could get out. We talked about how "everything" will not fit into the house at once- at least not comfortably. My cute little pack-rats.

Busy and fun week so far!

We have been working on many projects this week:
We made "Hand-some" Ducks and decorated our wall with the adorable ducks. We compared hand sizes and how our hands grow as we get older. They had a great time sorting hands by size.

Planting Seeds- We planted grass seeds for the kids to watch them grow. They loved playing in the dirt and watering the grass. I think we will "mow" our grass with a scissors for fun too!

Out and About

The weather has been wonderful and the kids love our time outside. Today, we headed to the "dinosaur park" as the kids call it. It is a little bit of a walk but it is nice to play with different playground equipment. We pack a snack and drink and bring our own toys. The kids love digging in the sand with shovels and pails. I have a small sand box in the backyard but the park is a lot more fun- a giant sandbox! So tonight might be a good bath night. We try to leave to sand at the park but somehow it ends up everywhere- gritty hair, filled shoes, and in pockets. They even "fed" the dinosaur a healthy amount of sand. They kept saying he was hungry!
They had a great time!

Easter Party

We started out the morning with our Easter Egg Hunt. Thank you to our two volunteers for hiding all the eggs- Matt & Jenni. I lost count at 300 eggs, not sure how many there is, more then enough to completely fill up each child's basket.

Our happy egg hunting team. The older kids were assigned a specific color to look for to make it fair for the smaller kids. Everyone ended up with a full basket of eggs and lots of treasures and treats!
The Egg and Spoon race- youngest first and then the oldest. I found cute eggs & spoons at Target last year- the spoons are very large and the eggs "crack" open and a bean bag yolk comes out when they are dropped.

Our Egg toss game- The plastic eggs are weighted with play dough to make them easier to throw through the hole in the basket. We went in age order- youngest to oldest.

Pin the tail on the Bunny- felt circles with poster putty on the back to make them stick to the bunny without damaging it. This time we when oldest to youngest.

Opening our Easter eggs. They really enjoyed finding their treasures inside the eggs. I tried to cut down on the amount of candy. The eggs had a bunch of fun things in them- balls, bubbles, stampers, stickers, bracelets, erasers, rings, and fuzzy chicks.

The kids enjoyed swinging, running around and playing while waiting for their turns. We also played a couple other games- Egg Puzzles- they had to find their partner with the matching piece. And Barnyard- they had to find their matching animal by listening for the sounds.
It was a amazing to spend the morning outside. We even ate our snack outside- our first time eating outside as a group this year! What a great day and fantastic weather!
