Tuesday- Spring Flowers

The kids are very proud of their spring flower pictures and poem. "Spring is for growing new things and I am growing too" We have been reading books about Spring and Easter. Today we read a funny book called "Bark, George." The kids loved it so much we had to read it twice. It is about a puppy who does anything but bark. It the end his mother says "bark, George, bark" and he says "hello." The kids walked around the rest of the day saying "bark, George, bark" "hello" and laughing. So, if they continue it at home, you will know where it came from. Silly fun.

The kids are enjoying reading books together for the Book It program. We write the names of the books on paper crayons and decorate our book it poster. Everyday we count them- great counting practice.

We also started our April book of the month "Five Green and Speckled Frogs" We select a different book each month to be our “Book of the Month.” During the month we read the book nearly every day. By the end of the month your child has it memorized. Memorization is one of the first steps in learning to read. At the end of the month, each child receives a copy to take home. Please enjoy having your child “read” the book to you.

Last week's updates- Thursday's Music Class

We had music class on Thursday and the kids did great. job following directions and listening in class.
Here they are dancing and singing to a song- "In the Circle."

They also picked out instruments and played them.
Taking turns playing the guitar at the end of class and singing "Music class is over"

Last week's Updates

Rain, rain ,go away.... That was the theme for the week. We were able to play outside two days last week. We are hoping it warms up again- especially for the Easter Party! We had our Easter Egg hunt in the snow last year and played all our party games in the garage! Easter is later this year so I am hoping and praying for good weather.

Josh having his afternoon snack outside-we wanted to get outside when the rain stopped. Our littlest diva in sunglasses having fun on the tractor (no sun but the shades are cool!).

Two of the boys were gone on Spring break and Myles was feeling a little lonely & out numbered by the girls. He kept asking them if they would play star wars or transformers with him but they were not excited. He was a good sport and played dolls and house with them. Fortunately, our friend Elijah was able to come and join us for a couple days (his daycare was closed for Spring break). The two boys had a great time playing together! The girls had fun too!

Warm Weather- Yippee!

We have been enjoying the wonderful warm weather. The park across the street is actually dry and the kids love being able to play at the park again. They love riding the trikes, bikes, and big wheels again, too. I feel like we have come out of hibernation.

The monkeys, hanging upside down, sliding on the fire pole, and climbing

My Big Helpers- they volunteered to push Holly and Hannah
Toucan fascination- everyone took a turn riding the spring toucan

Cute as can be, enjoying the park!

Happy St. Patrick's Day

The kids are very proud of their Shamrock guys, silly little project, love the huge googly eyes! The kids enjoyed green cookies after lunch too.

Thursday- Music Class

The kids learned two new songs- "Five Green & Speckled Frogs" and "Down on the Farm" in music class today. They enjoyed counting the frogs and making farm animal sounds. They really enjoyed playing different instruments and singing together.

Thursday- Decorating Cookies

Decorating cookies is a fun art project for us. I mix up powdered sugar frosting to a medium consistency- not to thin and not to thick. We make small bowls of several different colors and the kids "paint" their cookies with small paint brushes. The brushes make it easy for them to spread the frosting and use different colors. They get to eat a cookie when they are done decorating their plate full of cookies.

Wednesday- Making Cookies

One of our favorite cold weather activities is making cookies. We start out with clean hands, big t-shirts to cover their clothes and keep them clean, or as clean as possible. They each get a ball of dough, miniature rolling pins and cookie cutters. We like to use a whole wheat cookie cookie dough and spend lots of time making cookies. We make a really big mess but the kids have a great time so it is worth the clean-up. We turn it into a two day project, day one- make cookies, day two decorate the cookies.

Spring Break Photos

We were blessed with warmer weather last week. The kids had a great time making snowmen, smashing snowmen and making them again. It was an exciting week, with a slightly different group of kids each day.
It was great to have the big kids help with reading circle time. The younger ones really thought it was great to have someone other then me read to them. They really can't wait to be able to read themselves, just like the big kids.
We also played our new Veggie Tales dance game. It hooks up to the laptop and has a dance pad. The kids enjoyed taking turns dancing to their favorite Veggie Tales songs. Even the littlest ones took a turn and had some assistance from their big friends.
